How GSA Helps

Your company’s GSA contract positions your company to realize sales growth if priority is given to accurately identify and describe products and services that have sustainable environmental attributes in Commercial Price Lists, websites, and print materials. GSA relies heavily on your company’s identification of sustainable products and services offerings conveyed in your commercial price list and product descriptions facilitated by the electronic upload into GSA Advantage!.

GSA is committed to providing “green” options for federal customers. GSA works hard to build strategic customer relationships and to become a trusted advisor for the many acquisition programs it manages. GSA leverages these relationships to identify business opportunities, create awareness of the various GSA acquisition programs, and present vendors under GSA contract as the viable solution for their acquisition needs. GSA has implemented strategies to make it easier for the federal acquisition workforce to identify sustainable products and services offered by companies awarded a GSA contract, such as by using the environmental icons in GSA Advantage!, to identify these items.

Here are several specific examples of how GSA utilizes your company’s identification of sustainable products to help position companies under GSA contract for increasing its federal market share.

GSA Green Procurement Compilation Website

The GSA Green Procurement Compilation (GPC) consolidates federal purchasing requirements from a variety of sources in order to simplify sustainable acquisition efforts. The GPC advises federal buyers of the purchasing options available under GSA contracts (e.g., by Multiple Award Schedule). It links to pre-populated searches within GSA Advantage! In order to help customer agencies identify the companies that offer sustainable products and services. Thus, accurately identifying sustainable products by selecting the appropriate GSA Advantage! environmental icon helps customers to find you either directly through GSA Advantage!, or indirectly through the GPC.

Visit the GPC website to get familiarized with the products and services covered with sustainable acquisition requirements and see how GSA helps promote the use of suppliers under GSA contract.

Acquisition Gateway Website

The Federal government is moving toward Category Management to more smartly and effectively manage its purchases of commonly used products and services. As part of this effort, GSA launched the Acquisition Gateway, an online website that provides a single portal for agencies to collaborate and share information. The Acquisition Gateway contains the following 10 hallways:
Facilities & Construction Office Management
Human Capital Professional Services
Industrial Products & Services Security & Protection
Information Technology Transportation & Logistics Services
Medical Travel & Lodging
In these hallways, you can find sustainable acquisition expert articles, tools, and resources.

GSA Environmental Products Shopping Experience

GSA has made it easy for Multiple Award Schedule contractors to identify products that contain environmental attributes in the GSA Advantage! and GSA Global Supply™ online purchasing systems by creating an Environmental Products shopping experience for federal buyers. With a click of a box or several boxes and typing a brief product description that conveys the environmental attribute(s), you initiate the electronic process for uploading product information in GSA Advantage! with an associated environmental icon for a sustainable product. It is that simple. The GSA Environmental Products Aisle in both online purchasing systems enables federal buyers to search, view, and purchase products that meet a specified sustainable attribute. Here is the list of sustainable attributes available to them:
BioPreferred Item Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) Energy Efficient Item
Electronic Product Environmental Tool (EPEAT) Item Low Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) Item
Energy Star Compliant Item Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP)
EPA Comprehensive Procurement Guideline (CPC) Item WaterSense Item

Schedule Item Number (SIN) Descriptions in GSA eLibrary

GSA eLibrary (formerly Schedules e-Library) is the online source for the latest contract award information for: GSA Schedules; Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Schedules; Technology Contracts, including Governmentwide Acquisition Contracts (GWACs), Network Services and Telecommunications Contracts, and Information Technology (IT) Schedule 70; and Federal Strategic Sourcing Initiative contract vehicles. The eLibrary listings contain all the current contracts under those contract vehicles and their respective schedule and Special Item Number (SIN) information. GSA highlights sustainable acquisition attributes in SIN description when requirements are included in the GSA contract. Either the sustainable product requirements are included in the SIN description or in a Note following the description. The SIN description advises potential buyers that sustainable products or services are or may be offered by the suppliers listed.
