Greenhouse Gases

Executive Order 13693 requires the federal government to reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 40% by 2025. E.O. 13693 includes GHG reduction strategies for building operations (including electricity purchases), data centers, and fleet vehicles, like predecessor E.O.s. Also, for the first time, E.O. 13693 introduces supply chain GHG emissions as part of the overall national strategy. In addition to continuing to promote sustainable acquisition, the seven largest purchasing agencies now are required to identify five procurements in which to include annual supply chain GHG reporting requirements.

The Federal Government has made an effort to provide GHG education to all agencies and current or prospective contractors working with/for agencies. In support of the E. O. 13693, the General Services Administration (GSA) has initiated various educational outreach programs.
